I've already posted about finishing and being very happy with the pickup swap for my Tele, but I couldn't sit still for very long, so I decided to modify the controls, and change over from the standard Telecaster wiring to the new "Greasebucket" circuit.  Cost all of $3.96 for parts (I still have enough components for another if anyone wants the Greasebucket...) and took about 8 minutes of clipping/removal of components and soldering in the new ones.

Like any other mod, it depends on what you want, rolling off the tone knob doesn't change the sound nearly as much as it used to, in fact, on the bridge p'up, through a clean channel with the tone knob rolled all the way off, yes ALL THE WAY OFF, it still twangs and sings like a regular Tele witht he tone rolled back only 1/4 or 1/2 of the way, and the bass rolls off almost to match.  So, you keep ALL of the twang, but it becomes a much easier, less "ice pick" sound, even with the volume knob dialed up to 10.

I guess the easy way to describe it is that it kind of dampens the entire tonal range, slightly, as you roll off the tone knob...

The verdict: I like it...it works for me, so I'll keep it  Devil Fingers

If you think you want to try it, but aren't sure, it's a VERY easily reversible modifcation  Smiley

I have a Seymour Duncan custom shop pickup out of a Telecaster someone should buy for this project...

It's got a sticker on the back which reads "DCJ". According to some posts (unrelated to me) on the Seymour Duncan site, it's a custom Duncan Custom humbucker assembled by Maricela Juarez.
It came out of the black Tele I have and is shown below.

Hm...not really in the market for full sized humbuckers, trying to keep the Tele all single-coil, and looking at using these for the Strat; bridge and neck - http://bit.ly/KHg2O and one of these for the middle - http://bit.ly/9FqElL

But yeah, the combo of a VERY traditional Tele bridge, HB sized P-90 at the neck and the "Greasebucket" circuit is my own personal sonic Zen

Some photos, I really should have taken a "before" shot

Volume knob on the right, tone knob on the left, if you look at a normal tone circuit on a Tele control plate, the wire between the two would go straight across to the bottom lug of the tone pot instead of the top, and there would be a 0.05 microfarad ceramic disc capacitor from the top lug of the volume pot to the middle lug of the middle lug of the tone pot.

On the tone pot, a 0.1 microfarad capacitor is connected to the top and middle lugs, and the bottom lug runs through a 0.022 microfarad capacitor in series with a 47k resistor to ground on the body of the pot

Like I said, dead simple, and easy to reverse!
